About Us

The Purple Projectsm is a program of Cummings Watts & Associates, LLC and is the brainchild of former foster care alum, LaTasha C.Watts; who herself “aged out” of the foster care system, without being adopted. As a child and a young adult LaTasha remembered what it felt like to not have a strong network of people that were just like herself, as well as the lack of resources and support she faced after “aging out” of the foster care system. She created The Purple Project to provide an online and offline support network, for current youth in foster care and foster care alumni. This is a place to connect, share experiences, talents and to find various community support resource and information, all in one place. “Being in the system does not mean that you are alone!”

                               OUR MISSION

To create an online and offline support and resource network for current youth in foster care and foster care alumni - including those who have“aged out” of the foster care system or were adopted.

THE ORIGIN OF OUR NAME

The name "The Purple Projectsm," was choosen by the network creator LaTaha C. Watts, because as a child Latasha was very fond of the color purple and during a transition phase in her life she developed an attachment to a pair of purple pants. It was later discovered that the attachment to those purple pants represented the only thing in her life that she herself had total control over: when she wore them, how they were taken care of etc. LaTasha kept those purple pants for many years, and when the time was right she was able to let them go. So there you have it! The reason
for the name "The Purple Projectsm."
